Eligibility, allowance and booking
Who can use the large-item program?
Only properties receiving Township municipal garbage collection qualify. A Township address without that service is not eligible. Confirm the property's collection arrangement before booking a private hauler or leaving bulky items outside.
How many items are allowed?
Each eligible property may book up to four large items per calendar year. The limit belongs to the property. Ask the collection service about the remaining allowance if you moved in during the year or share the property with another household.
When will I get a pickup date?
After staff review the booking request, a confirmation email with the pickup date is sent within two business days. Add lipu@sierrawaste.ca to approved senders. A submitted form alone is not a confirmed collection date.
Accepted items and preparation
Which furniture and appliances are accepted?
Examples include sofas, chairs, desks, tables, recliners, bed frames and car seats. Large appliances include washers, dryers, stoves, hot-water tanks, dishwashers, refrigerators and chest freezers. Remove all food from refrigerators and freezers before pickup.
How do I prepare a mattress?
Mattresses and box springs must each be bagged or sealed in plastic; mattress bags are preferred. No more than two of the four annual items may be mattresses or box springs. Count a mattress and its box spring as separate listed items.
Can outdoor furniture and equipment go?
The program accepts lawnmowers, patio furniture, umbrellas and barbecues. Remove briquettes and propane tanks from barbecues. Exercise equipment such as stationary bikes, treadmills and elliptical machines is also listed as accepted.
Excluded materials and uncertain items
Are rugs accepted?
Area rugs are accepted only up to 5 feet by 8 feet. A larger carpet or renovation load should not be treated as one accepted rug. Contact the program about any item whose size or category does not fit the published examples.
Which renovation materials are refused?
Toilets, bathtubs, sinks, drywall, plumbing and lumber are not accepted. Arrange another disposal route through the Township What Goes Where tool or the Recycling Council of BC. Do not add renovation debris to an approved furniture collection.
Which other items are excluded?
TVs, tires, vehicle bodies or parts, propane tanks and household hazardous waste are excluded. The appliance allowance does not make a television or propane tank acceptable. Use the material-specific recycling or safe-disposal route instead.
Who can confirm an unusual item?
Call 604-530-3939 when an item appears in neither accepted nor refused examples. Describe the exact item and size before booking. Keep the confirmation email and prepare only the items accepted for the scheduled pickup.
