Owner eligibility and cart sizes
Who can request a cart-size change?
Owners of single-family homes, townhomes, rowhomes and individual mobile homes in complexes with municipal collection can request changes. The property owner needs a MyTownship account for an online service change. Tenants do not use the owner-only size-change route.
Which garbage cart sizes are offered?
Single-family homes use 240-litre standard garbage carts and can request 120 litres. Townhomes, rowhomes and mobile homes have a 120-litre standard size with a 240-litre option. Confirm the property's collection eligibility before choosing a size.
Which Green Cart sizes are offered?
Single-family properties have a 240-litre standard Green Cart and an 80-litre option. The standard for townhomes, rowhomes and mobile homes is 80 litres, with a 240-litre option. Garbage and Green Cart sizes are separate choices.
Fees, capacity and change forms
What does changing a cart cost?
Additional carts and size exchanges are subject to a $50 administration fee per cart. Annual fees change with the size and number of carts after the service change is implemented. Check the applicable rates before submitting an exchange.
How can I decide whether to downsize?
Cart lids must close fully for collection. A move from 240 to 120 litres suits a household normally filling half or less of the current cart. Consider typical usage across the year rather than only one quiet collection week.
Which form covers an extra cart?
Use Additional Cart Service for another cart, Cart Size Exchange for a size change and Cart Removal Request to remove an additional cart. Removing an extra cart is a different request from reporting one stolen or damaged.
New homes, damaged carts and help
How do new houses get their first carts?
The owner of a newly built single detached home should complete the New Cart Request. Tenants cannot request that initial delivery. People moving into a townhouse complex should ask strata management how carts are supplied.
What if an existing cart is broken?
Use the Damaged Cart application. The Township says inspection, repair or replacement has no charge when the cart was properly stored and secured. Owners and tenants can submit this type of request. Describe the actual damage rather than ordering a size exchange.
What if a cart is missing?
Use the Missing Cart application, including when carts are absent at an existing home after moving in. Owners and tenants can submit it. The no-charge policy depends on proper storage and security, so give staff the circumstances.
Who helps with a cart request or login?
Email carts@tol.ca or call the Cart Information Line at 604-532-3533. MyTownship sign-in requires a verification code since December 10, 2025. Keep access to the account email when an owner needs to authorize a service change.
