Our client is a well-established and growing Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) firm seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and communicative Estate Accountant & Trust Administrator.
In this vital role, you will act as the core financial liaison and bridge between our estate operations team and external stakeholders. Your primary responsibility will be managing the financial lifecycle of Consumer Proposals and Bankruptcy estates. This includes tracking incoming monthly payments from individuals completing their restructuring programs and ensuring those funds are accurately distributed as dividends to corresponding creditors, vendors, and payees.
If you enjoy a mix of analytical accounting, bank reconciliations, and collaborative liaison work within a regulated, professional framework, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact and bridge between internal Estate Managers (who handle the consumer/debtor relationships) and external creditors/payees.
- Trust Accounting & Distribution: Monitor, track, and post incoming bank payments and electronic deposits from individuals on consumer proposals and bankruptcies.
- Dividend Distributions: Calculate, prepare, and issue accurate financial distributions and dividend payments to vendors and corresponding credit payees in accordance with statutory guidelines.
- Estate Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations on specialized estate trust accounts to ensure all funds are accounted for to the penny.
- Vendor & Creditor Relations: Coordinate directly with vendors, financial institutions, and corporate creditors to resolve payment discrepancies, verify proof of claims, and update payee profiles.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all estate financial transactions comply with federal insolvency regulations, filing required statutory forms and balancing ledgers prior to estate closure.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in trust accounting, book-keeping, account payables/receivables, or general financial administration. Prior experience within a Licensed Insolvency Trustee firm or legal/estate accounting is a strong asset but not required.
- Technical Savvy: Proficiency with accounting platforms and estate software (e.g., Ascend, Insolvency Manager, or similar ERP systems) alongside intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Meticulous Accuracy: Exceptional eye for detail when handling high-volume transactions, bank reconciliations, and numerical data processing.
- Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to serve effectively as an internal and external liaison.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to trace discrepancies between incoming bank batches and outgoing vendor statements efficiently.
