Job Description:
Got strong technical knowledge but consider yourself an all-arounder? Might have a good job for you.
Capwest Group is looking for an Estimator to support concrete work across our construction and manufacturing operations. You’ll split your time between Capwest Concrete & Pumping, where you’ll price forming, placing and pumping scopes for projects across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley with our concrete manufacturing and precast division.
That means you’ll see the full picture on every job: what it costs to build in the field, what it costs to produce in the plant, and which approach makes the most sense for the client. The role is based in Coquitlam with regular travel to Chilliwack, and there’s a real path into project management for someone who wants to follow their work past the bid stage.
Perks:
- Competitive pay & a Comprehensive Benefits Package.
- Benefits include company-paid extended health care, dental care, vision care, life insurance, critical illness, and critical life insurance.
- Annual Education Allowance
- Generous Referral Program
- Fun & collaborative company culture with lots of team-building events
- Local discounts to restaurants, clothing stores, personal training, and more
- Free access to a fully equipped gym
- Friends and Family rates for hospitality brands
What you will do:
- Prepare detailed estimates for all concrete-related projects across both the construction and manufacturing sides of the business
- Price construction scopes including cast-in-place concrete, formwork systems, shoring, foundations, slabs and structural elements
- Price manufactured and precast products, including production costs, mould and form requirements, materials, plant labour, curing, handling, storage and delivery
- Work with the manufacturing team to develop cost-effective precast and custom concrete solutions for clients, including design-assist and alternative product options
- Help decide whether a scope is best delivered cast-in-place, precast, or a hybrid of both, and price each option so clients can compare
- Review drawings, specs and addenda, and complete accurate quantity takeoffs
- Build pricing for labour, materials, equipment and subcontractors, and get competitive supplier and sub quotes
- Spot risks, gaps and value engineering opportunities and flag them early
- Put together clear, organized bid packages, product quotes and scope letters, and take part in post-bid reviews
- Hand off awarded work to construction or plant operations with a clean budget, scope and production breakdown
- Work with PMs, superintendents and plant staff to track job and production costs and use actual results to sharpen future estimates
- Keep cost databases, productivity rates and supplier pricing current for both field and plant work
- Support or lead project management on select jobs over time (scheduling, coordination, change orders, client communication)
What you bring:
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related technical program
- 5+ years of estimating experience in concrete construction, with solid exposure to forming and precast
- Working knowledge of precast manufacturing processes and how production costs are built (moulds, batching, reinforcing, curing, handling, transport)
- Strong takeoff skills and comfort with estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff) and Excel
- Good understanding of concrete construction methods, sequencing and productivity rates in both field and plant settings
- Ability to read and interpret structural and shop drawings
- Clear, confident communication with clients, subs, suppliers, field crews and plant teams
- Collaborative approach and the ability to manage several bids and quotes at once without losing accuracy
- Interest in growing into project management
- Valid BC driver’s licence and reliable transportation for regular travel to Chilliwack
Salary Range:
$110,000+ per year
