ABOUT CLOUDSCAPE
Cloudscape Architecture is a growing architectural practice based in Port Moody. Our commercial work includes retail, restaurant, office, and tenant improvement projects, with involvement from design and permitting through construction.
Location: Port Moody, BC
Position: Full-time
Annual Base Salary: CAD $65,000–$80,000, based on demonstrated experience and technical capability
We are seeking an Intermediate Building Technologist with substantial commercial tenant improvement experience to support drawing production, technical coordination, and construction administration.
This is a hands-on technical role working directly with our Principal Architect. You should be comfortable reviewing existing drawings and project records, completing assigned work independently, and bringing forward well-supported recommendations for review.
YOUR ROLE
- Prepare and revise architectural drawings for permit, tender, and construction, including plans, details, schedules, and notes.
- Incorporate consultant information, review comments, and approved changes into coordinated drawing sets.
- Research RFIs using project drawings, specifications, consultant information, and previous correspondence; prepare proposed responses and supporting sketches for the Architect’s review.
- Prepare draft site instructions and supporting documentation based on the Architect’s direction.
- Assist with reviewing change requests against the documented scope and identifying discrepancies or missing information.
- Review drawings before the Architect’s final review, checking dimensions, references, coordination, consistency, and incorporation of previous comments.
- Track outstanding technical questions and clearly identify decisions requiring the Architect’s input.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Diploma in Architectural and Building Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- At least six years of relevant experience in an architectural practice or comparable project delivery environment, including substantial commercial tenant improvement work.
- Direct experience preparing architectural permit and construction drawing sets.
- Strong AutoCAD proficiency and practical construction detailing skills.
- Experience supporting construction administration, including RFI responses, drawing revisions, and site instructions.
- Working knowledge of BCBC 2024 and VBBL 2025, including their application to commercial tenant improvements, with familiarity with local permitting processes.
- Ability to read and coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Clear written English for technical correspondence and project documentation.
- Ability to follow established drawing standards, investigate issues independently, and recognize when further direction is needed.
Experience limited to cabinetry, millwork shop drawings, or fabrication drawings does not meet the architectural documentation requirements of this position.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
- Experience with retail, grocery, restaurant, or occupied-building renovations.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings and supporting field reviews.
- SketchUp or Revit proficiency.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Direct collaboration with the principals of a growing architectural practice.
- Involvement across drawing production, permitting, coordination, and construction.
- Opportunities to develop greater technical responsibility as your familiarity with our projects and standards grows.
- An annual base salary of CAD $65,000–$80,000.
Placement within the salary range will reflect demonstrated TI experience, drawing quality, technical judgment, and the ability to complete the responsibilities of this role independently.
